Title: Update to Electrical Engineering Regulations | |
Abstract:
This rulemaking would incorporate by reference updated electrical engineering standards and add a limited number of acceptable alternative standards in 46 CFR subchapter J. In some cases, the later editions reflect more modern technologies, terminology, and practices that are already in use by industry. This change would reduce the amount of equivalency requests from industry to the Coast Guard. This rulemaking would also eliminate several outdated or unnecessarily prescriptive electrical engineering regulations. This update would provide a cost savings for vessel manufacturing firms, as electrical standards would be updated and the firms would expend fewer resources on equivalency waiver requests. |
