Title: Safety Standard for Accessibility of Button and Coin Batteries in Consumer Products and Special Packaging for Button and Coin Batteries | |
Abstract:
CPSC is aware of fatal and nonfatal incidents involving children ingesting button and coin batteries. Reese’s Law, signed August 16, 2022, directs the Commission to, "Not later than 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act promulgate a final consumer product safety standard for button cell or coin batteries and consumer products containing button cell or coin batteries.” In accordance with the law, staff is preparing a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) briefing package for Commission consideration in fiscal year 2023. The draft NPRM will address hazards associated with children accessing and ingesting button and coin batteries used in certain consumer products. |
