Title: Amendment 34 to the Fishery Management Plan for the Coastal Migratory Pelagic Resources in the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Region (CMP FMP) (Amendment 34) | |
Abstract:
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) proposes regulations to implement Amendment 34. The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council approved Amendment 34 for review by the Secretary of Commerce at their March 2022 meeting, and the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council approved Amendment 34 at their April 2022 meeting. Amendment 34 proposes to revise the catch levels (acceptable biological catch and annual catch limits), sector allocations, recreational annual catch targets and management measures for Atlantic migratory group king mackerel (Atlantic king mackerel) based on the Southeast Data, Assessment and Review 38 Update assessment (2020). Additionally, Amendment 34 proposes changes to management measures for Atlantic king mackerel and Atlantic migratory group Spanish mackerel (Atlantic Spanish mackerel). Management measures would increase the recreational bag limit for Atlantic king mackerel off the east coast of Florida, and allow recreational fishermen to keep cut/damaged Atlantic king mackerel and Atlantic Spanish mackerel that meet minimum size limits. Amendment 34 would base conservation and management measures on the best scientific information available and increase net benefits to the Nation, consistent with the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act and its National Standards. |
