As authorized by the regulations implementing the New England Fishery Management Council’s Northeast Multispecies Fishery Management Plan, this action proposes to set management measures (season length, possession limit, minimum size) for the recreational fishery for cod and haddock in the Gulf of Maine and cod in Georges Bank for the 2023 fishing year (May 1, 2023, through April 30, 2024).  The measures are developed in consultation with the New England Fishery Management Council and account for updated catch information and the fishing year 2023 quotas. The proposed recreational measures would set harvest seasons, possession limits, and minimum fish sizes for private and for-hire recreational fishing operators in the Gulf of Maine.
