Title: ●Implementing the Big Cat Public Safety Act | |
Abstract:
To carry out the Big Cat Public Safety Act, FWS will establish regulations regarding ownership of these species or hybrids of them: Lion (Panthera leo), tiger (Panthera tigris), leopard (Panthera pardus), snow leopard (Uncia uncia), clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa), jaguar (Panthera onca), cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus), and cougar (Puma concolor). Any entity who does not qualify for one of the exemptions provided in the law must register each individual animal with FWS, with certain exceptions. To increase safety for the public and big cats, the Big Cat Public Safety Act also prohibits direct contact between big cats and the public and will prohibit future private possession of big cats. |
