Title: Decompression Criteria for Interior Compartments | |
Abstract:
This rulemaking would allow non-structural walls (partitions) to collapse if they are immediately adjacent to a sudden hole in the fuselage skin of a size that would cause a rapid decompression. Compliance to the rule as written would require substantial structural strength for these small compartments, and could create unintended, unsafe consequences for the airframe structure, such as the floor beams, if these partitions were strengthened. Certification to the revised standard would allow partitions to collapse in a controlled manner and in a way that continues to protect the occupants from contact and injury to the extent practical. |
