Title: ●30-Day Notification Requirement Prior to Termination of Lease for Nonpayment of Rent (FR-6387) | |
Abstract:
Under this proposed rule, when tenants face eviction for nonpayment of rent in public housing and properties with project-based rental assistance, PHAs or owners would need to provide those tenants with written notification at least 30 days prior to lease termination. This proposed rule would curtail preventable and unnecessary evictions by providing tenants time and information to help cure nonpayment violations. This proposed rule would improve HUD’s programmatic efficiency by ensuring resources are not diverted to cover the costs of unnecessary evictions and by preventing homelessness, and it will promote the general welfare and security of the Nation by avoiding the societal ills wrought by evictions. |
