Title: Aerosol Duster Petition | |
Abstract:
On April, 2, 2021, Families United Against Inhalant Abuse (FUAIA) submitted a petition requesting that the Commission initiate rulemaking to adopt a mandatory CPSC safety standard to address the hazards associated with duster aerosol products used for cleaning electronics and other items and containing the chemical 1,1-Difluorethane, or any derivative thereof. The Commission published a request for comments on the petition in the Federal Register. On July 20, 2022, staff submitted a briefing package to the Commission. On July 26, 2022, the Commission voted to defer action on the petition to allow staff to conduct further research. Staff may participate in a newly created voluntary standard, and shall notify the Commission when doing so. Staff will submit a further briefing package to the Commission in fiscal year 2023. |
