Abstract:
This rulemaking would amend the NRC's environmental protection regulations by updating the environmental effect findings of renewing the operating license of a nuclear power plant. These findings would be based on a programmatic analysis under the National Environmental Policy Act. The rule will affect operating power reactor licensees that seek an initial or subsequent renewed operating license. |

Additional Information: A rulemaking plan was provided to the Commission for review and approval on July 22, 2021 (SECY 21-0066). On February 24, 2022, the Commission disapproved the plan, and directed staff to resubmit a revised plan within 30 days. A revised rulemaking plan was provided to the Commission for review and approval on March 25, 2022 (SECY 22-0024). On April 5, 2022, the Commission issued SRM-SECY-22-0024 approving the staff to proceed with a 24-month rulemaking. | |
