Title: Alternatives to Petitions for Modification: Non-Permissible Surveying Equipment | |
Abstract:
The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) proposes to allow the use of electronic surveying equipment in underground mines if the equipment meets certain technical specifications and is operated under certain conditions. This proposal would codify technical specifications and working conditions in standards, so that mine operators choosing to use electronic surveying equipment would no longer need to submit a petition for modification. By allowing the use of electronic surveying equipment, this proposed rule would make mine-surveying more accurate and less time-consuming, while maintaining safety at underground mines. MSHA intends to reach out to stakeholders, including mine operators, labor unions, industry trade associations, health and safety organizations, and the public to ensure broad stakeholder participation in the public comment period. |
