Title: Management of Federal Agency Receipts, Disbursements and Operation of the Cash Management Improvements Fund | |
Abstract:
The Department of the Treasury, Bureau of the Fiscal Service (Service) plans to publish a notice of proposed rulemaking to amend regulation 31 CFR part 206 governing the collection of public money. The notice would propose implementing the Service's statutory authority to mandate that some or all non-tax payments made by the public to an agency be made electronically, and that remittance information accompanying payments be submitted electronically. The receipt of electronic payments offers significant efficiencies and cost-savings to the government as compared with the receipt of cash, checks and money orders. The Service will request public comment on all aspects of the proposed rule, including the costs and difficulties posed to payors by an electronic payment requirement. |
