Title: Refugee Appearances and Interviews | |
Abstract:
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will propose to amend its regulations governing appearances for inquiry by individuals applying for classification as refugees in order to be admitted to the United States in that status. This proposal would clarify the general requirement that refugee applicants 14 years of age and older appear for inquiry, which includes, but is not limited to, an interview under oath by an immigration officer. It also would provide U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services greater flexibility by giving immigration officers the discretion to waive the applicant’s appearance for inquiry entirely or in part, and by clarifying that immigration officers may conduct interviews remotely. |
