DOE/EE RIN: 1904-AE65 Publication ID: Spring 2024
Title: Test Procedures for Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps
Abstract:

The Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA), as amended, requires the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to amend test procedures with respect to packaged terminal air conditioners (PTACs) and packaged terminal heat pumps (PTHPs) at least once every 7 years, if it determines that amended test procedures would more accurately produce test results which measure energy efficiency, or make a determination not to amend test procedures. DOE proposes to amend PTACs and PTHPs to establish seasonal energy efficiency metrics for heating and cooling. DOE also proposes to revise the current test procedure to measure dehumidification energy use to make-up air PTACs and PTHPs. Now completed, this rulemaking fulfills DOE’s statutory obligation to either propose amended standards for this equipment or determine that the existing standards do not need to be amended. The early assessment review request for information, 85 FR 78967 (12/08/2020) was published under the incorrect RIN (1904-AE80).
