Title: Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Removal of Extinct Species From the Lists of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants | |
Abstract:
In a 2023 rulemaking action, FWS removed 1 mammal, 10 birds, 2 fishes, and 8 clams from the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife due to extinction. Those species have not been observed for several decades, and adequate survey efforts have been conducted that support the Service’s decisions to delist. The rulemaking action had also included proposals to remove Phyllostegia glabra var. lanaiensis (no common name) from the List of Endangered and Threatened Plants and the ivory-billed woodpecker (Campephilus principalis) from the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife. However, in 2023 FWS withdrew the proposal to remove Phyllostegia glabra var. lanaiensis. FWS will make a final determination on our proposal to remove ivory-billed woodpecker. |
