Title: Migratory Bird Permits; Authorization To Take Depredating Black Vultures | |
Abstract:
FWS is proposing to establish a registration system to authorize the take of depredating black vultures (Coragyps atratus). The proposed approach is adapted from FWS’s pilot program, which is scheduled to end in February 2026. This proposed registration system would relieve the burden on producers and entities currently serving as the permit holder under the pilot program as well as expand authorization to those experiencing property damage. Individuals or entities could register with FWS to receive instant authorization to take an authorized number of depredating black vultures. This proposed system would allow the public to address damage while remaining consistent with the conservation of migratory birds because FWS can track the number of black vultures authorized for take and the reported number taken. |
