Title: Relief Under the Violence Against Women Act of 1994 and Subsequent Legislation | |
Abstract:
This proposed rule would amend regulations governing self-petitions for immigrant classification and related relief available to certain spouses, children, and parents who have been subjected to battery or extreme cruelty by a U.S. citizen spouse, parent, son, or daughter, or a lawful permanent resident spouse or parent. DHS also proposes to amend regulations governing petitions to remove conditions on permanent residence in which conditional permanent residents (CPR) request a waiver of the joint filing requirement due to battery or extreme cruelty by their U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (LPR) spouse or parent. USCIS engaged the public on topics related to VAWA through hosting listening sessions, attending meetings and conferences, and organizing national engagements. Between June 2023 and June 2024, USCIS hosted 8 events that were attended by a total of 346 participants. Information about upcoming local and national engagements as well as notes from previous engagements can be found at https://www.uscis.gov/outreach. Written materials, including questions and answers, can be found at https://www.uscis.gov/humanitarian/abused-spouses-children-and-parents. |
