Title: Innovative Assessment Demonstration Authority | |
Abstract:
Under the Innovative Assessment Demonstration Authority (IADA), States may pilot innovative assessments as an alternative to a State’s current summative assessments and the use of assessments for accountability and improvement purposes before scaling statewide. The Department plans to issue regulations to support States in developing higher-quality assessment systems that can be better used to assess student learning and inform instruction in ways that improve teaching and learning. These regulations will be informed by the April 2023 report by the Institute of Education Sciences documenting the progress participating state systems made under IADA and the challenges they faced and the November 20, 2023, letter from Secretary Cardona to chief State school officers regarding IADA. The Department will also consider the comments received as a result of its Request for Information on how IADA can be improved. |
