Title: ●Public Transportation Safety Program | |
Abstract:
This rulemaking would amend FTA’s Public Transportation Safety Program regulation at 49 CFR Part 670 to enhance the procedures for FTA to monitor, oversee and enforce the Public Transportation Safety Program. Current procedures outlined in the rule, such as procedures for General Directives, do not provide FTA with sufficient flexibility to quickly address emergent safety concerns that impact the entire transit industry. The regulation also does not include detailed procedures for certain enforcement tools that FTA has used in the past, such as Immediate Action Letters. The regulation will be revised to provide an efficient, effective, and progressive approach to enforcement and compliance, which in turn will maximize the impact on transit safety and ensure consistency with oversight and enforcement procedures implemented by other USDOT modes, as appropriate. |
