| Title: ●Management Measures for the 2025 Area 2A Pacific Halibut Recreational Fishery | |
|
Abstract:
This action would implement the 2025 Pacific Halibut Catch Sharing Plan (CSP) in accordance with the Northern Pacific Halibut Act of 1982. The CSP allocates the International Pacific Halibut Commission Regulatory Area 2A Pacific halibut catch limit between the Washington treaty tribes that fish for Pacific halibut, the Washington, Oregon, and California directed and incidental commercial fisheries, and the recreational fisheries. For the 2025 season, the Pacific Fishery Management Council recommended several minor changes to the portion of the CSP covering recreational fishery season opening and closing dates, open days per week, and an inseason provision to transfer of any projected unused Northern California subarea allocation to the South of Point Arena subarea prior to or by the end of the Northern California fishing season (November 15). The changes would expand season length, and increase angler opportunity. This rule is likely to have minimal economic impacts and will primarily affect recreational anglers. |
