Title: ●Pacific Island Fisheries; 2026-2029 Annual Catch Limits and Accountability Measures for Main Hawaiian Islands Uku (Gray Jobfish)
Abstract:

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) proposes 2026-2029 annual catch limits (ACL) and accountability measures (AM) for Main Hawaiian Islands (MHI) uku (gray jobfish) This action would also propose to remove a current in-season AM that depends on highly uncertain non-commercial catch estimates and maintain only the current post-season AM based on a three-year average of catches. As a post-season AM, if the average total commercial and non-commercial catch from the most recent three years exceeded the ACL, we would reduce the ACL for the following year by an amount equal to the overage. A 2024 stock assessment update indicates the MHI uku stock is neither overfished nor experiencing overfishing, biomass is almost three times the minimum stock size threshold, and sustainable catch is roughly 100,000 lb (45.4 mt) higher than the current 2022-2025 295,419 lb (134.00 mt) ACL.
