Title: ●Generic Amendment under the Fishery Management Plan (FMP) for the Reef Fish Resources of the Gulf and Coastal Migratory Pelagics (CMP): Modifications to the Gulf For-hire Data Collection Program
Abstract:

The Gulf Council is developing this generic amendment to improve the accuracy, precision, and timeliness of landings, discards, and fishing effort data from federally permitted for-hire vessels within the recreational sector of the Gulf reef fish and CMP fisheries. Improvements would increase stakeholder trust and buy-in associated with data collection. Another purpose is to collect economic information related to the operational costs and income of federally permitted for-hire vessels participating in the Gulf reef fish and CMP fisheries. The Gulf Council is developing this action consistent with the authority in Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (Magnuson-Stevens Act) section 303(a)(5) (requiring that FMPs specify data to be submitted with respect to commercial, recreational, charter fishing, and fish processing in the fishery). The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) would implement this proposed action consistent with the authority in Magnuson-Stevens Act section 304(b).
