| Title: ●Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Removal of the Designation for a Nonessential Experimental Population of Grizzly Bears in the Bitterroot Ecosystem of Idaho and Montana | |
|
Abstract:
This proposed rule would propose to remove the Bitterroot Ecosystem nonessential experimental population (NEP) designation of the grizzly bear (Ursus arctos horribilis) from 50 CFR 17.84(1) (see 65 FR 69624, November 17, 2000) under section 10(j) of the Endangered Species Act. Grizzly bears were never reintroduced into the Bitterroot Ecosystem; thus, the associated 10(j) regulations and NEP never went into effect. A new environmental impact statement (EIS) is being developed to evaluate options for restoring grizzly bears to the Bitterroot Ecosystem, which would be announced concurrently with a proposed rule. |
