Abstract:
National banks file Call Reports pursuant to 12 U.S.C. 161 and other statutes. The data are used to evaluate and monitor the financial condition and earnings performance of individual banks as well as the entire banking industry. The current proposed changes would become effective March 31, 2011. The changes would provide data needed for reasons of safety and soundness or other public purposes. They would assist the agencies in gaining a better understanding of banks' credit and liquidity risk exposures, primarily through enhanced data on lending and securitization activities and sources of deposits.

There was a slight decrease in burden due to the decreased number of national banks. In addition, there was a greater increase in burden due to the addition of new items and the breakdown of existing items into multiple reporting items. This resulted in an overall increase in burden.
