Short Statement: The decrease is a result of a reduction in activity due to the state of the economy and consolidation of the banking industry. Also, since FY 2010, 305 national banks and Federal savings associations have left the Federal banking system through charter conversion (to a state bank), liquidation, dissolution, or failure.
