FORM 1096 IS USED AS A COVER FORM TO SEND INFORMATION RETURNS (FORMS 1099 AND 1087 SERIES) TO THE SERVICE CENTER, UNDER IRC SECTION 6041 AND RELATED SECTIONS. A SEPARATE FORM 1096 IS USED FOR EACH TYPE OF RETURN SENT IN BY THE PAYER. IT IS USED BY IRS TO SUMMARIZE AND CATEGORIZE THE FORMS BEWING SENT IN.
