Abstract:
SEC. 4481 IMPOSES A TAX ON THE USE OF PUBLIC HIGHWAYS OF ANY HIGHWAY MOTOR VEHICLE WHICH HAS A TAXABLE GROSS WEIGHT OF AT LEAST 55,000 POUNDS. THE TAX IS PAID BY THE PERSON IN WHOSE NAME THE VEHICLE IS REGISTERED OR REQUIRED TO BE REGISTERED. WHEN REGISTERING A VEHICLE SUBJECT TO TAX UNDER SEC. 4481 AFTER DECEMBER 31, 1984, THE REGISTRANT IS GENERALLY REQUIRED TO PRESENT PROOF OF PAYMENT OF THE TAX IMPOSED BY SEC. 4481 TO THE STATE IN WHICH THE VEHICLE IS BEING REGISTERED.
