SURVEILLANCE OF ADVERSE PREGNANCY OUTCOMES IS AN IMPORTANT TOOL IN LEARNING ABOUT T CAUSES OF CONGENITAL MALFORMATIONS AND OTHER NEONATAL CONDITIONS, IN ASSESSING THE ROLE PLAYED BY SUSPECTED AGENTS, AND IN EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CONTROL PROGRAMS FOR THOSE DEFECTS AND DISEASES FOR WHICH PREVENTIVE TECHNIQUES ARE AVAILABLE.
