Abstract:
SCTION 6404(E)(1) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE AUTHORIZES THE COMMISSIONER OF INTERNAL REVENUE TO ABATE INTEREST ATTRIBUTABLE TO ERRORS OR DELAYS BY IRS EMPLOYEES IN PERFORMING A MINISTERIAL ACT. IF THE PERIOD FOR FILING A CLAIM FOR CREDIT OR REFUND OF SUCH INTEREST WOULD EXPIRE BEFORE OCTOBER 23, 1987, THE REGULATION EXTENDS THE TIME FOR FILING TO OCTOBER 23, 1987.
