We have approved this collection of information through 6/88, with the following explanation. On November 4, 1987, OSHA published a "Request for Comments and Information" (52 FR 42321) soliciting comment "on whether and to what extent the information collection requirements of the (noise) standard can be reduced without reducing the effectiveness of the standard...." The comment period ends on January 4, 1988. In April 1988, OSHA shall resubmit this package for OMB review, and shall include a summary of the comments received and the agency's response to the comments. If the comments demonstrate that further examination or rulemaking is needed on specific issues, the agency shall include a schedule for further action.

THIS STANDARD REQUIRES EMPLOYERS TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN ACCURATE RECORDS OF EMPLOYEE EXPOSURES TO NOISE AND AUDIOMETRIC TESING PERFORME IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THE STANDARD.
