We have approved this collection of information through March 1988, with the following explanation. The agency has included in this package all comments in the rulemaking record pertaining to this recordkeeping requirement. None of these comments questions the practical utility of these requirements, although other aspects are questioned. Hence, we are continuing to extend approval through completion of the final rule, which is scheduled in the October 1987 Unified Agenda of Federal Regulations for March 1988, where we will review these comments and the agency's response to them.

UNDERGROUND CONSTRUCTION EMPLOYERS ARE REQUIRED TO KEEP A RECORD OF AIR QUALITY TEST RESULTS IN ORDER TO IDENTIFY DECREASING OXYGEN LEVELS OR POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS CONCENTRATIONS OF AIR CONTAMINANTS IN TIME TO TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION PRIOR TO THE ATTAINMENT OF HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS.
