Terms of Clearance:
In accordance with 5 CFR 1320, this information collection is approved through December 1990. Approval of this information collection is conditional on BJS testing by July 1989 a question on Spanish/Hispanic origin persons, such as Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban and other Hispanic origins. The purpose of this test is to explore the feasibility of the National Crime Survey in the 1990s identifying separate categories of persons of Hispanic origin. In addition, approval is conditional on the Bureau of Justice Statistics placing the information on length of interview in a prominent place such as the introductory letter or the beginning of the questionnaire.

Abstract:
THE NATIONAL CRIME SURVEY IS A PROGRAM FOR GATHERING, ANALYZING, PUBLISHING AND DISSEMINATING STATISTICS ON THE KINDS AND AMOUNT OF CRIME COMMITTED AGAINST HOUSEHOL AND INDIVIDUALS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. RESPONDENTS INCLUDE PERSONS 1 YEARS OR OLDER LIVING IN 60,000 HOUSEHOLDS IN VARIOUS LOCATIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
