Abstract:
THE NRC IS CONSIDERING REVISING ITS TRANSPORTATION SAFETY REGULATIONS TO MAKE THEM COMPATIBLE WITH THOSE OF THE INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY (IAEA). SEVERAL SUBSTANTIVE CHANGES ARE PROPOSED TO PROVIDE A MORE UNIFORM LEVEL OF SAFETY. THESE REGULATIONS APPLY TO NRC LICENSEES WHO PLACE RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL IN TRANSIT.
