THESE STANDARDS SPECIFY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR A VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER, ITS INSTALLATION, FORMAT, AND CONTENT TO SIMPLIFY INFORMATION RETRIEVAL, AND INCREASE THE EFFICIENCY OF DEFECT RECALL CAMPAIGNS.
