THIS FORM IS USED TO COLLECT PERTINENT INFORMATION REGARDING DEFAULTED STUDENT LOANS FROM INSTITUTIONS PARTICIPATING IN THE PERKINS LOAN PROGRAM ED FORM 553 SERVES AS THE TRANSMITTAL DOCUMENT IN THE ASSIGNMENT OF DEFAULTED STUDENT LOANS TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR COLLECTION.
