Approved for use through 2/91 under the condition that the next submission to OMB reflect the following: (l) as stated in the National Drug Control Strategy (The White House, January 1990), the national sample may be increased to the equivalent of 20,000 households sampled on a simple random basis representative of the U.S. population, if the increase is consistent with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980 criteria (2) the questionnaire sequence will ask general questions to screen for overall drug use in addition to questions relating to specific types of abuse (3) questions regarding attitudes towards drug abuse will either be added, or included in a timely household or person-based survey of equivalent power the decision regarding the appropriate instrument will be made in consultation with ONDCP (4) questions providing more detail on health insurance coverage and income will be added.
