As part of its next submission for review of this collectio the Department should ensure that BATF provides a summary of comments made by common carriers concerning use of this form and BATF's respons to the comments. Also BATF should indicated the proportion of theft reports that it follows up with calls to carriers, the additional information it obtains, the source the carrier consults, and the time expended by carriers in responding to the followup calls.

Abstract:
THE FORM IS PART OF A VOLUNTARY PROGRAM IN WHICH THE COMMON CARRIER AND/OR SHIPPER REPORTS LOSSES OR THEFTS OF FIREARMS FROM INTERSTATE SHIPMENTS. THE FORM IS COMPLETED BY THE CARRIER/SHIPPER TO NOTIFY ATF OF THE LOSS OR THEFT. ATF USES THIS INFORMATION TO ENSURE THAT THE FIREARMS ARE ENTERED INTO NCIC, TO INITIATE INVESTIGATIONS, AND PERFEC CRIMINAL CASES.
