Approved. The materials submitted for this review request, including a summary of past and future research activity submitted February 3, 1993, show that BLS has surpassed its implementation schedule for a national survey of occupational fatalities. Also, the summary of past and future research shows that BLS is actively seeking to improve the survey quality and usefulness. Finally, we take particular note of th broad range of professional interest shown in your September user conference, papers and comments submitted to you since the conference, and your plans to make data tapes available by the end of 1993 to States.

Abstract:
THE CENSUS OF FATAL OCCUPATIONAL INJURIES WILL PROVIDE POLICY MAKERS A THE PUBLIC WITH COMPREHENSIVE, ACCURATE, AND TIMELY MEASURES OF WORK-INJURY FATALITIES. THE SYSTEM WILL COLLECT DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATI ABOUT THE DECEASED, CHARACTERISTICS OF THE EMPLOYER, AND INFORMATION CONCERNING THE INCIDENT.
