Terms of Clearance:
Approved through June 1996 to allow for public comment on the information collection provisions contained in 29 CFR 1910.119, the regulation governing Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals, under the procedures of the new Paperwork Reduction Act. Given the substantial burden imposed by this regulation -- exceeding the sum total of all other DOL collections combined -- DOL will solicit comment on ways that the information collection provisions could be revised or implemented differently to reduce burden while still achieving the purposes of the rule. As required by the new PRA, DOL will include a summary of public comments received as part of the record supporting its request for PRA clearance to OMB, in sufficient time to allow action prior to the expiration date of June 1996.

Abstract:
These requirements are intended to manage the hazards associated with processes using highly hazardous chemicals. They establish procedures for process safety management that will protect employees by preventing or minimizing the consequences of chemical accidents involving highly hazardous chemicals.
