This information collection request is approved provided that the "NOTE" at the top of all the Forest Service forms is revised for accuracy. The "NOTE" currently reads: The information requested on this form is voluntary; however, all of the data requested is necessary if you wish to be considered as a qualif- ied applicant for a grazing permit. The data is requested under authority of 5 USC 301., 36 CFR 222.3. Some forms have incorrectly cited the CFR section by omitting the CFR part. The "NOTE" must make it clear that the INFORMATION collection is mandatory, but that using these particular forms is voluntary. The current "NOTE" does note make this clear, instead the Forest Service appears to contradict itself by stating the the info. collection is both mandatory and voluntary in the same sentence.

Abstract:
The data obtained from all of the said forms is used by Forest Officers in administering the range program. The data is necessary for the issuance of different types of grazing permits and the collection of fees due to the Federal Government. It must be collected on an individual basis for those applying for or holding a grazing permit.
