Approved; DOL addendum of 1/7/97. DOL has agreed to provide OMB with the data available on school-to-apprenticeship within 6 months. Upon next submission for OMB review, BAT shall: (1) update OMB on progress toward the direct-to computer registration effort and adjust the burden hours accordingly (this project should be built off the earlier pilot program conducted by BAT); (2) develop instructions to the form which better inform the respondent as to what information is being requested; (3) consider a different tracking system -- not social security number.(If the social security number is still requested, BAT shall provide compelling justification for the continued collection of this information, which includes a list of other methods that were considered and their inadequacies); (4) delete the (information not available) and (not elsewhere classified) categories which are currently listed in question 17 on race and ethnicity; (5) work to improve communication and integration between the program and the National Skills Standard Board, especially during the development of standards; (6) reevaluate the current requirement of an original signature on the agreement forms. BAT agreed to work with SAC organizations to encourage involvement by SAC states with the AIMS. Also BAT agreed to collect on a regular basis the school-to-apprenticeship data in the AIMS and strongly encourage states to provide this data. OMB is encouraged by the initiative that BAT is taking in order to improve the apprenticeship program.
