Abstract:
Federal tribal acknowledgment of unrecognized groups is governed by 25 CFR part 83. Anthropological, genealogical, and historical data submitted by petitioning groups demonstrate that they meet the seven regulatory criteria and are used by the BIA to prepared recommended acknowledgment determinations by the Assistant Secretary-Indian Affairs.
