Abstract:
The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) is a multipurpose survey conducted to comply with the National Center for Health Statistics' (NHIS) mandate under 42 U.S.C. 242K to secure statistical information on the amount, distribution, and effects of illness and disability in the United States and the service rendered for or because of such conditions. The NHIS is a principal source of information on the health of the civilian, noninstitutional population of the United States. This request encompasses the second full year of data collection--January- December 1998--of the redesigned NHIS.
