Approved with DOL clarification memo of 10-2-98. Existing terms of clearance not yet satisfied and still in effect. Given that DOL plans on examining consolidation and duplication in 1999 this approval is given for 18 months._The reduction in burden comes from two factors, an assumption by DOL that notification of employees is done in a centralized location rather than individually and a decrease in the estimated time of a medical exam from two hours to 1.5 hours.

Abstract:
The standard requires employers to monitor employee exposure to cotton dust, to provide medical surveillance, to train employees about hazards of cotton dust, and to establish and maintain accurate records of employee exposure to cotton dust. These records will be used by employers, employees, physicians, and the Government to ensure that employees are not being harmed by exposure to cotton dust.
