Approved consistent with ONDCP memo dated 8/6/01 (sent to SAMHSA on 8/20/01). In addition, SAMHSA will report to OMB on the results of the remuneration study, and will discuss any additional plans to pay remunerations to participants. SAMHSA will also provide the race/ethnicity analysis to OMB by spring of 2002, as per the letter from Donald Goldstone.

Abstract:
The NSDUH (formerly the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse) is a survey of the civilian, noninstitutionalized population of the United States, age 12 and over. The data are used to estimate the prevalence of cigarette, alcohol and illicit drug use, and abuse of licit drugs. Results are used by SAMHSA, ONDCP, and other Federal agencies and other researchers and organizations to establish policy, direct program activities, and better allocate resources. Beginning in 1999, the survey includes an expanded tobacco module and the sample is expanded to provide State level estimates for all States and the District....
