This collection requires contractors to report use of inventions made under the contract to the government. While the contractor may submit the information electronically, a more proactive role is necessary by the FAR in educating the contract officer community of the preference for electronic submissions when desired by the contractor.

Public Law 98-620 amended Chapter 18 of Title 35 U.S.C. This rule implements in the FAR the regulations issued by the Department of Commerce, 52 FR 8552, march 18, 19878, which requires contractors to report inventions to contracting officers.
