Terms of Clearance: This information collection is approved for a limited period of time. OPM must take steps to obtain this information directly from SSA. The status of an application for Social Security disability benefits is information already known to part of the Federal Government. Well before expiration of this approval,OPM should provide information to OMB about how OPM and SSA will better coordinate disability benefits. Causing annuitants to serve as an inteermediary between two agencies of the Federal Government is not an acceptable approach.

Abstract: The information provided by the annuitant is used by OPM to verify receipt of SSA disability benefits, make necessary adjustments to the FERS disability benefit, and notify the annuitant of any overpayment payable to OPM. It also notifies the annuitant of the responsibility to notify OPM if SSA benefits begin and consequences of non-notification.
