Terms of Clearance:
OMB is disappointed that OSHA did not meet the previous terms of clearance for this collection. The previous terms continue to apply. This collection is approved for eighteen months to give OSHA time to promulgate Phase II of the Standards Improvement Project. OSHA plans to publish the NPRM for phase II in Sept. 2002. Approval is consistent with OSHA's agreement to examine alternatives to requiring worker social security numbers in recording exposure monitoring results. In addition, OSHA will revisit the burden estimate for the provision governing information provided to the physician, consistent with OMB's e-mail to DOL on 3/28/02.

Abstract:
The standard requires employers to monitor employee exposure to acrylonitrile (AN), to provide medical surveillance, to train employees about the hazards of AN, and to establish and maintain accurate records of employee exposure to AN. These records will be used by employers, employees, physicians, and the Government to ensure that employees are not harmed by exposure to AN.
