Terms of Clearance: Approved for use through 4/2005 under the following conditions: 1) prior to fielding this instrument, NCHS consults with CMS staff familiar with EMTALA and its ongoing implementation issues. NCHS must submit to OMB a description of these consultations and any subsequent revisions to the new Supplement Q; 2) Although OMB generally supports NCHS' desire to improve the NHAMCS' response rates, it does not grant a broad generic approval for such research. NCHS must notify OMB in writing of each proposed effort. OMB will consider each of these on a case-by-case basis; and 3) no later than 12/2002, NCHS briefs OMB staff on issues related to the adoption of ICD-10 coding in its health surveys.

Abstract: Data collected from hospital emergency and outpatient departments concerning patient visits are weighted to produce national estimates.
