This collection is approved for one year only. The previous terms of clearance for this collection required ED to draft guidance to implement OMB's standards for data on race and ethnicity, to submit this guidance to OMB for approval, and to reflect these changes in the collection of race and ethnicity data in this ICR. This collection does not currently meet OMB standards for the collection of data on race and ethnicity. ED is directed to submit to OMB its plans to bring this and its other collections into conformance with OMB standards for data on race and ethnicity before the next submission of this ICR to OMB for approval.

Abstract:
The Common Core of Data is the National Center for Education Statistics' universe data collection for finance and nonfinance information about public school districts and schools. Information is collected annually from school districts about the districts and their member schools including enrollment by grade, race/ethnicity, and gender. Information isalso collected about students receiving various types of servicessuch as English Language Learner services. The CCD also collects information about the occurrence of high schooldropouts. Information about teachers and staffing is also collected.
