Short Statement: DEA is allowing, but not mandating, the use of electronic orders for Schedule I and II controlled substances. The implementation of electronic ordering is occurring more slowly than DEA projected originally, but the number of transactions per electronic order is significantly higher than the number of transactions per paper order. As a result, the burden hours have declined.
